National Mosquito Control Awareness Week
June 21–27, 2026
National Mosquito Control Awareness Week (NMCAW) is an opportunity to educate your community, engage local leaders, and showcase the critical role mosquito control professionals play in protecting public and environmental health.
This year’s theme builds on AMCA’s public awareness campaign:
Yesterday’s Threat, Today’s Solutions
Mosquitoes have threatened human health for centuries. Today, mosquito control professionals use science, innovation, and integrated vector management to protect communities from mosquito-borne diseases.
Throughout the week, we encourage AMCA members to share content across five key content pillars.
- Content Pillar #1: Set the Stakes – Build awareness of the risks mosquitoes pose and establish why mosquito control matters now.
- Content Pillar #2: Bring the Problem Home – Make the issue tangible, relatable, and locally relevant.
- Content Pillar #3: Illustrate the Solution – Build trust in mosquito control programs and demonstrate your value with specific examples.
- Content Pillar #4: Show What Individuals Can Do – Empower residents to take practical steps that support mosquito control efforts.
- Content Pillar #5: What We Can Do Together – Demonstrate that lasting progress depends on partnerships between residents, mosquito control districts, community leaders, and policymakers.
Content pillars are the core messaging territories that guide communications. Rather than prescribing specific content formats or topics, content pillars define the key ideas, arguments, and audience takeaways that should be reinforced over time.

Ideas for Celebrating National Mosquito Control Awareness Week
There are many ways to participate in National Mosquito Control Awareness Week, regardless of your agency’s size or resources. The key is to stay on message. By using our national campaign framework, Yesterday’s Threat, Today’s Solutions, we can tell a unified story: mosquito control works, and together we can make mosquitoes a thing of the past.
Consider selecting one or two activities that help educate your community, engage local leaders, or highlight the importance of mosquito control.
- Launch a social media campaign using the Yesterday’s Threat, Today’s Solutions resources and content guide.
- Distribute a local press release highlighting mosquito control efforts in your community.
- Invite elected officials or policymakers to visit your district and learn about mosquito control operations.
- Host a community open house or facility tour.
- Contact your local radio station and offer to serve as a guest expert on mosquito prevention and public health.
- Visit a local elementary school and teach students about mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases.
- Partner with local Girl Scout or Boy Scout troops for an educational program or activity.
- Set up an informational display at a library, community center, city hall, or other public location.
- Organize a tire collection or source reduction event to help eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
- Distribute mosquito repellent packets and educational materials throughout your community.
- Highlight your staff and the work they do to protect public health.

Remember: National Mosquito Control Awareness Week doesn’t have to be a large event. Even a single social media post, educational presentation, or community outreach activity can help raise awareness of the important role mosquito control plays in protecting public health, and the value your program provides.
